Glen Mayo has been named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for the 2023-2024 season at South Plains College. Mayo hails from Chipley, FL, where he was born to the late Kenneth and Jackie Mayo. He graduated from Chipley High School in 2010. He pursued higher education at Chipola College, where he not only honed his basketball skills but also obtained both his Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration Management.

Mayo brings an impressive wealth of knowledge and over a decade of experience on the college basketball sidelines to his role at South Plains College. His coaching journey includes a four-year stint as a head collegiate basketball coach, making him a seasoned leader in the field.

At the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, Glen spent two years as the head men's basketball coach. During his tenure, he led the Indians of Salkehatchie to two consecutive Region 10 tournament appearances. The Indians' journey included an overtime loss in the Semifinals during his first season and a loss in the Region Championship during his second season. In both years, the University received national recognition making the Top 25 NJCAA Rankings under his guidance, a testament to his coaching acumen.

Before his time as the head men's coach, Glen Mayo served as the Head Women's Coach at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie. During his two-year tenure, the Lady Indians qualified for the Region 10 Tournament both years. Each year the University received national recognition making the Top 25 NJCAA Rankings, with their highest ranking reaching #13 in the country. His ability to lead both men's and women's programs speaks to his versatility as a coach.

Furthermore, Mayo's coaching journey includes several years of assistant coaching experience at renowned junior colleges, Northwest Florida State College and Chipola College. He was a part of multiple teams that won the Region 8 Tournament and attended the National Junior College Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. These experiences provided him with valuable insights and skills that have since been an integral part of his coaching approach.

What truly sets Glen Mayo apart is his exceptional ability to cultivate lasting relationships with both his peers and players. He possesses strong leadership skills that are credited to influential mentors, including Jane Brewer, Jake Williams, Steven Demeo, Patrick Blake, Jake Headrick, and Greg Heiar. His genuine personality and charisma also make him one of the top recruiters in the junior college basketball landscape.

Glen Mayo's passion for the game, commitment to player/personal development, and extensive coaching background make him an indispensable addition to the South Plains College Men's Basketball coaching staff. His presence promises to elevate the program and contribute to their continued success in the 2023-2024 season.
