
HOBBS, NM — Jalen Ricks scored a season-high 21 points as No. 17 South Plains took a nine point lead into the locker room at the midway point, but a strong second half from Weatherford would be the difference Wednesday as the Coyotes topped the Texans 83-81 in overtime.
The Texans move to 5-3 on the season and will be back on their home floor on Friday when they take on Temple at 7:15 p.m. at the Texan Dome.
Ricks finished five of 13 from the floor and was six-for-six from the free throw line over 41 minutes. Issac Taveras finished with 15 points and five assists for South Plains, while Clarence Payia netted 13 points and eight boards. John Awoke totaled nine points and four assists as the Texans shot a 45 percent clip from the field and knocked down 11 3s in the contest.
Antwan Wilson led Weatherford with 18 points and four rebounds, while Adrian Shackleton and Tyson Whybrew each finished with 11 points. Weatherford shot 47.6 percent from the floor and was 19 of 21 from the free throw line.
