No. 7 Triton edge No. 2 Texans 88-87 Wednesday

HUTCHINSON, Kansas — The second-seeded South Plains College men's basketball team fell to No. 7 Triton 88-87 Wednesday afternoon in the Elite of the NJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The Texans end the season with a record of 32-3, and champions of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, and the Region V Tournament.

South Plains shot over 50 percent from the field in the contest, but struggled at the free throw line, going just 13-24 from the stripe. JC Curry provided a much needed spark off the bench, connecting on six of eight shots from the field and was five of six from distance, totaling 17 points for South Plains.

Malique Ewin poured in a team-high 23 points and 11 boards over 34 minutes for the Texans, while Jermahri Hill finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Jalen Hampton netted 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Jaborri McGhee chipped in 12 points and dished out a team-high nine assists.

Triton shot a 50 percent clip from the floor, led by Amar Augillard who totaled 23 points and five boards. AJ Dixon dropped in 20 points to go along with four rebounds and three steals, while Dylan Williams finished with 13 points and four rebounds.
