No. 1 Texans stifle No. 11 Odessa 67-66 Thursday, improve to 21-0

ODESSA — Jabori Mcghee and Jalen Hampton combined for 38 points and 11 rebounds Thursday as the top-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team picked up a crucial conference road win with a 67-66 victory over No. 11 Odessa at the OC Sports Center.

South Plains will be back on the road Monday when they travel to Midland for a 7:30 p.m. tip against the Chaparrals. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com.

Mcghee finished with a game-high 21 points over 40 minutes, dropping in six of 11 shots from the field, including four triples, while also grabbing four boards and handing out three assists. Hampton netted 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 38 minutes while Malique Ewin finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Jalen Forrest and Kerwin Prince each added six points coming off the bench for South Plains as the Texans shot a 44.7 percent clip from the field. Willie Lightfoot led Odessa with 17 points while Brandon Maclin had 14 as the Wranglers shot just 35.6 percent in the contest and were seven of 26 from distance.
