#1 Texans tame Broncos 78-54 Thursday, improve to 16-0

LEVELLAND — Four Players netted double figures Thursday at the top-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team ousted New Mexico Military Institute 78-54 at the Texan Dome.

South Plains improves to 16-0 on the year and 2-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and will be on the road Monday when they travel to Snyder to take on Western Texas College at 7:30 p.m.

"Coming back from New Mexico we had some things we felt like we could clean up," South Plains head coach Hayden Sowers said. "We came out tonight and executed well, we gave up too many 3s in the second half, but overall I thought we played well. You have to build good habits, and we fell asleep a couple of times, and credit to them, they made some shots. We have guys at every position, and I feel like if we will move the ball side to side and get open looks, we will continue to make shots."

Jabori Mcghee led South Plains on the offensive end with 19 points, dropping in six of 11 shots from the floor and was four of four from the free throw line. Jalen Hampton bucketed 15 points to go along with 10 boards over 29 minutes, while Jermahri Hill finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

"Coming into the game we wanted to move the ball and play with toughness and together, and we got the job done," Hampton said. "We play with a lot of toughness, and if we continue to do that and share the basketball, we're going to win a lot of games. We like to play with a lot of energy and get the ball up and down the floor, and we were able to do that tonight."

South Plains shot a 50.9 percent clip from the field and knocked down 17 of 21 attempts from the free throw line. The Texans were just as impressive on the defensive end, forcing 25 turnovers in the contest as the Broncos shot just 34.6 percent from the field.
