#2 Texans rout Otero 81-60 to improve to 9-0

PLANO — Jabori Mcghee scored in double figures for the fourth straight game and the eighth time this season Friday as the second-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team improved to 9-0 with an 81-60 victory over Otero College at the Collin County Thanksgiving Classic.

South Plains will look to stay perfect when they take on Hill College at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Cougar Gymnasium.

"We played well offensively tonight, and guys were able to find their spots and get open looks," Mcghee said. "Our coaches have faith in our guards, and we look to make the right play every possession. We need to continue to progress on defense, and right now it kind of feels like we are being hunted, and we feed off of that and try to make winning plays on both sides of the ball."

Mcghee finished with 20 points for South Plains, including 14 coming in the second half. Jermahri Hill bucketed 19 points, while Malique Ewin netted 18 points, including 10 in the second half.

"This was a good team win for us," South Plains head coach Hayden Sowers said. "Otero guards the ball well and denies reversals, which gave us a little trouble, but overall getting a win over a team with multiple wins over teams in our conference is always good. We've got a quick turnaround tomorrow against a really good Hill team who took Odessa into overtime today. If we can continue to hold teams under 70, which we've done for four straight games, we have a chance to stack wins and play games deep into the postseason as South Plains expects to do."
