Texans fall to Midland 72-66 Thursday

MIDLAND — The South Plains College men's basketball team fell to Midland College 72-66 Thursday in their final regular season game at the Al G Langford Chaparral Center.

The Texans cap the regular season with a record of 22-8, including a 10-6 mark in league play. SPC will shift its focus to the NJCAA Region V Tournament, which is slated for March 8-11 at Frenship High School in Lubbock. The Texans will play as the No. 4 seed out of the West, against the No. 1 seed from the North. The full bracket will be released on Friday.

Jaden Harris led South Plains with 23 points over 35 minutes off the bench, dropping in six of 17 shots from the field and was seven-for-seven from the free throw line. Malek Abdelgowad netted 15 points and 10 boards while Ismail Habib finished with nine points over 33 minutes.

Midland was led by Trent Johnson, who poured in 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds over 37 minutes. Doug Young totaled 18 points and four rebounds for the Chaparrals, while Brison Waller chipped in nine points over 17 minutes.
