Howard holds off No. 10 Texans 87-82 Thursday in Big Spring

BIG SPRING — The South Plains College men's basketball team fell to one and one in league play Thursday as Howard College edged the Texans 87-82 at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

South Plains moves to 13-3 on the season and will be back on their home court on Monday, Jan. 16 when they play host to Frank Phillips College at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com.

Four Texans scored in double figures against the Hawks, including Jaden Harris who netted a team-high 20 points over 37 minutes, dropping in seven of 18 shots from the field and also snagged four rebounds. Christian Coleman scored in double figures for the 16th consecutive game, recording his seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 boards over 37 minutes.

Ismail Habib finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, and a pair of steals for South Plains, while Elijah Tate provided a spark off the bench, pouring in 14 points over 25 minutes, and finished four of eight from distance. The Texans shot a 41.2 percent clip from the field and knocked down nine 3s in the contest.

Howard's Lorenzo Fort led all scorers with 29 points and five rebounds, while Deng Mayar chipped in 17 points and 10 boards. Howard shot 43.3 percent from the floor and was eight of 24 from the 3-point line.
