Texans win eighth straight, top Trinidad State 60-47 Friday in Roswell

ROSWELL — Three players scored in double figures Friday afternoon as the South Plains College men's basketball team won their eighth straight game, besting Trinidad State College 60-47 at Cahoon Armory on the campus of New Mexico Military Institute.

The Texans improve to 9-1 on the year and will be back on the floor on Saturday when they take on Adams State JV at noon. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com.

"Early in the first half, I was able to score a layup and get the and-one, and then hit a 3, which really gave me some confidence early in the game," South Plains College' Jaden Harris said. "After I was able to make those first couple shots, I was able to have some success, and the rim started to look as big as the ocean."

Harris finished with 15 points for South Plains, dropping in a pair of 3s, scoring in double figures for the sixth time this season. Christian Coleman finished with 19 points for the Texans, his 10th consecutive game scoring in double figures. Jalen McDonald bucketed 12 points for the Texans, his second consecutive game netting double digits on the offensive end.

"We have really taken a step forward as a team," Harris said. "We have been playing well defensively and playing tough as a team. We have been doing the small things right, and that's what has helped us win eight straight games."
