Texans thwart Seahawks 85-72 Saturday in Plano

PLANO — The South Plains College men's basketball team won their third straight contest Saturday in their final game of the Collin County Classic, downing Lamar State College-Port Arthur 85-72 at Cougar Gymnasium.

The Texans improve to 4-1 on the season and will be back on the floor next weekend in Levelland when they host the SPC Classic Nov. 18-19 at the Texan Dome. South Plains will take on Otero College at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and will square off with Dallas College-North Lake at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will stream live at spctexans.com.

Christian Coleman led all scorers with 23 points, five assists, and three rebounds, connecting on 8 of 12 attempts from the floor and was seven of nine from the charity stripe. Freshman Jalen McDonald tallied 16 points over 22 minutes, bucketing seven of 10 shots from the floor, and was two of three from the 3-point line. Jaden Harris chipped in 15 points and five rebounds, knocking down three of 5 shots from the floor including a pair of 3s.

Muon Reath finished with eight points over 27 minutes for South Plains, while Malek Abdelgoward poured in seven points as the Texans shot 56 percent from the floor and were 18 of 24 from the free throw line.
