#3 Kilgore edges #14 Texans 56-48 Wednesday

HUTCHINSON, KS — The South Plains College men's basketball team fell to #3 Kilgore College 56-48 Wednesday in the Sweet 16 round of the NJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

South Plains held the Rangers to a season-low scoring total but were unable to find a spark offensively, shooting just 27.3 percent from the field. Kilgore edged the Texans 43-32 on the glass, but SPC was able to force 20 turnovers on the defensive end resulting in 11 points offensively.

Kieves Turner led South Plains with 11 points, four boards, and four steals, while Savion Gallion provided 10 points and three rebounds coming off the bench for the Texans. Jaden Harris netted eight points and six rebounds for SPC, while Eric Coleman Jr. finished with five points and four boards.

Mason Taylor led the Rangers with 12 points and four boards, while Da'Sean Nelson and DaVeon Thomas each finished with 10 points. Kilgore shot 36.8 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent from distance in the contest.
