Hawks edge Texans 75-58 Friday in Big Spring

BIG SPRING — The South Plains College men's basketball team dropped a conference road matchup against Howard College Friday afternoon, falling to the Hawks 75-58 at Harold Davis Court at the Dorthy Garrett Coliseum.

The Texans move to 12-10 on the season and 6-4 in league play and will return home on Monday to take on Frank Phillips College at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com and can be heard locally on KLVT Radio AM120 with Michael Wiiest calling the courtside action.

SPC jumped out to a 33-29 lead at the midway point, shooting over 47 percent from the floor and 33 percent from distance to open the game. Howard shot just 34 percent from the floor in the opening stint and was 1 of 13 from the 3-point line in the first 20 minutes.

Momentum shifted in the back half as Howard shot 53.1 percent down the stretch as Bonny Udoh netted 21 of his game-high 28 points over the final 20 minutes. Udoh finished 12 of 19 from the field to go along with nine boards and four steal in 34 minutes of action. Blaize Sagna tallied 14 points for the Hawks, while D'Mari Wiltz chipped 10 points, grabbed nine boards, and dished out a game-high nine assists.

Kieves Turner led South Plains with 20 points and four rebounds, dropping in 7 of 15 shots from the field over 29 minutes. Malek Abdelgowad poured in 11 points and hauled in 13 rebounds coming off the bench for the Texans, while DJ Avery recorded 11 points and five rebounds.
