Texans rout Midland 70-55 Monday

MIDLAND — Three Texans netted double figures Monday as the South Plains College men's basketball team routed Midland College 70-55 at the Chaparral Center.

South Plains improves to 12-8 on the season and 6-2 in the WJCAC and will be on the road again on Jan. 31 in Roswell to take on the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos. Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m. MST and the contest will stream live at spctexans.com.

DJ Avery recorded a double-double for South Plains, dropping in 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor, and also snagged 11 boards coming off the bench. Eric Coleman Jr. poured in 14 points in 19 minutes, connecting on 4 of 5 attempts, and was 3 of 4 from distance.

Marcus Burnett chipped in 10 points, sinking 3 of 5 shots from the field, and was 3 of 4 from the free throw line for SPC. Kieves Turner tallied nine points and six boards as the Texans shot 48.9 percent in the contest and 35 percent from the 3-point line.

South Plains controlled the glass as they outrebounded Midland 36-22 leading to 26 points inside the paint. The Texans forced 10 turnovers, resulting in nine points on the offensive end. SPC poured in 12 points on second-chance opportunities and received 32 points from their bench in the contest.
