Four Texans post double figures, SPC topples Clarendon 87-62 Thursday

CLARENDON — Four players scored in double figures, including a game-high 23 points from Kieves Turner as the South Plains College men's basketball team toppled Clarendon College 87-62 Thursday at Bulldog Gymnasium.

South Plains improves to 10-7 on the season and 3-1 in league play and will return home on Monday when they play host to Western Texas College at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome.

Turner tallied his 10th game in double figures Thursday, dropping in 7 of 16 shots over 40 minutes while also snagging seven boards and was a perfect 7 of 7 from the charity stripe. Savion Gallion chipped in 18 points for SPC, connecting on 7 of 13 shots and was 3 of 7 from distance.

Khalifa Sakho had his way in the paint, bucketing 13 points and eight boards over 39 minutes, while Marcus Burnett finished with 12 points, dropping in 4 of 10 shots from the field coming off the bench for South Plains. The Texans shot a 42.9 percent clip and were 19 of 24 from the free throw line, committing a season-low four turnovers while forcing 14 turnovers on the defensive end. SPC notched 18 points off turnovers, 12 points on second-chance opportunities, and posted 34 points inside the paint.
