#4 Texans edge Northeastern Oklahoma College-Enid 68-65 Sunday in season opener

EDMOND, OK — The fourth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team edged out a 68-65 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma College-Enid Sunday afternoon at the Mike Mitchell Elite Eight Tournament on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.

South Plains will be back on the floor on Monday at 3 p.m. against Murray State College.

South Plains led 34-29 at the midway point and was led on the offensive end by sophomore guard Malik Zachery, who tallied 16 points, nine coming in the first half. Sophomore Savion Gallion totaled 10 points for the Texans, while Eric Coleman Jr. also finished with 10 points.

Jaden Harris recorded seven points for South Plains, five coming in the second half while Khalifa Sakho had five points and Marcus Burnett finished with four points.
