No. 1 Texans cruise to 93-35 victory over Midland

MIDLAND — No. 1 South Plains College shot a season-high 64 percent en route to a 93-35 drumming of Midland College Thursday night at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center.

The Texans improve to 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in the WJCAC and return home Monday to take on Frank Phillips College at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome.

South Plains had 12 players score in the contest as they finished 41 of 64 from the floor and 9 of 22 from distance. Sophomore Rivaldo Soares led the way with 13 points and seven boards, connecting on 6 of 8 shots from the floor over 19 minutes. Margen Gatkuoth scored a season-high 13 points off the bench for the Texans, dropping in 6 of 9 shots from the field.

Sophomore big man Jevonnie Scott netted 11 points, three boards, and three assists while Myron Garnder had 10 points and six rebounds off the bench. Philmon Gebrewhit chipped in nine points and was 4 of 4 from the floor while Benjamin Bayela and Dalph Panopio each had eight points.

South Plains dominated the paint, scoring 50 points inside while holding Midland to just six points in the interior. The Texans would capitalize on 16 turnovers from the Chaparrals with 24 points on the other end, and dominated the glass as they outrebounded Midland 44-18.

The Texans held the Chaparrals to an abysmal 27 percent (13-48) clip from the field and a 2 of 15 mark from the 3-point line. Steven Richardson and Sage McLellan led Midland with eight points each, while Emanuel Prospere had seven and Tyler Brinkman finished with six points and six rebounds.
