No. 6 Texans tame Cougars 99-49 Saturday

LEVELLAND — Benjamin Bayela led all scorers with 23 points and six rebounds as the sixth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team defeated Coastal Bend College 99-49 Saturday at the Texan Dome.

South Plains improves to 5-1 with the win and will be back on the hardwood on Tuesday, Nov. 26 against Lamar Community College at 7 p.m. on "Meat the Texans" night at the Texan Dome. The game will stream live at spctexans.com with Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland calling the courtside action.

Bayela, a 6-foot-6 guard from France was a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor, draining three triples to lead the Texans on the offensive end. Freshman Rivaldo Soares tallied 19 points over 25 minutes, sinking 7 of 10 shots from the field and was 3-for-5 from the 3-point line.

Sophomore guard Junior Farquhar finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists, dropping in 5 of 9 attempts and was 2 of 3 from behind the arc. Philmon Gebrewhit, a 6-foot-7 redshirt freshman from Boston poured in 14 points in 31 minutes of action fro the Texans, shooting 3 of 9 from the hardwood to go along with three boards and three assists.

The Texans shot a season-high 60 percent from the field and were 9 of 19 from the 3-point line against the Cougars. South Plains outrebounded Coastal Bend 35-24 on the glass and scored 13 points on 14 turnovers from the Cougars. South Plains had it's way inside, netting 44 points inside the paint and received 35 points from the bench.

Lance Paul led Coastal Bend in scoring with 14 points to go along with four rebounds, connecting on 6 of 13 shots from the floor and were 2 of 5 from the 3-point line. Desmond McNiel finished with nine points and a pair of boards for the Cougars, while Eric Conner had eight and Elijah Moleon netted six.
