No. 8 Texans edge Trinity Valley 75-74 in overtime Friday

PLANO — In a rematch of last season's Sweet 16 matchup, the eighth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team outlasted Trinity Valley 75-74 in overtime Friday at the Texas East vs. West Challenge on the campus of Collin County Community College.

The Texans improve to 3-0 on the season and will be back on the hardwood at 10 a.m. on Saturday against  Lamar State College-Port Arthur. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com. With the win on Friday, head coach Steve Green is just nine wins shy of 500 wins leading the South Plains College program.

Freshman Rivaldo Soares led the Texans on the offensive end, scoring in double figures for the third consecutive game, chipping in 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the floor and was 3 of 6 from the 3-point line. Redshirt freshman Chance Moore, a 6-foot-7 guard from Louisville, Kentucky finished with 15 points, connecting on 4 of 7 shots from the field and was 7-for-9 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Junior Farquhar, a 6-2 guard from Toronto bucketed 11 points for South Plains, sinking 4 of 8 attempts from the field and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Freshman Philmon Gebrewhit tallied nine points for the Texans, dropping in three triples while Bernard Kouma finished with seven points as the Texans shot a 45.4 percent clip from the hardwood and knocked down eight 3s against the Cardinals.
