No. 8 Texans cruise to 98-79 win over Missouri State University-West Plains Saturday in Oklahoma

EDMOND, OK — Junior Farquhar led all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 11 shooting as the eighth-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team cruised to a 98-79 win over Missouri State University-West Plains Saturday at the Juco Elite 8 on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.

The Texans improve to 2-0 on the season and return to the court Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. against Trinity Valley Community College at the Texas East vs. East Challenge at Collin County Community College in Plano. The game will stream live at spctexans.com.

Farquhar, a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard from Toronto, Canada was 8 of 9 from the free throw line and snagged four rebounds in 36 minutes for South Plains. Chance Moore tallied double digits for the second consecutive game, dropping in 17 points on 4 of 5 shooting from the field and was a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.

South Plains' Rivaldo Soares netted 17 points and five boards, sinking 5 of 8 shots from the hardwood including three triples over 23 minutes. Freshman guard Benjamin Bayela, a 6-foot-6 product from France totaled 13 points for the Texans, connecting on 4 of 8 attempts from the hardwood and was 3-for-5 from the perimeter.

South Plains found its stroke early in the contest, shooting a 57.6 percent clip from the field in the first half and finished 57.1 percent from the floor in the contest. The Texans were 7 of 20 from the 3-point line and netted 17 of 19 attempts from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.

The Texans pushed the Grizzlies (0-2) around inside the paint, outrebounding their counterpart 35-18 on the glass. Sardaar Calhoun led Missouri State University-West Plains with 19 points and six rebounds, finding the net on 5 of 14 attempts and was 4 of 6 from three. Taevon Horton finished with 18 points for the Grizzlies, shooting a 5 of 8 clip over 25 minutes.
