No. 1 South Plains falls to Scottsdale 88-86 in overtime Monday in Arizona

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The top-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Monday, falling to Scottsdale Community College 88-86 in overtime at the Artichoke Gymnasium.

South Plains moves to 13-1 on the year and ends their road trip out west with a 3-1 record. The Texans will return to the hardwood on Monday, Jan. 7 in a conference matchup against Howard College at 7:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome. The contest will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action with pregame slated for 7:15 p.m.

Sophomore Gaige Prim led the Texans with 24 points, 13 coming in the second half. South Plains' Trey Wade finished with 23 points, 13 coming in the final stint while Jonah Antonio poured in 15 and Chris Orlina tallied 12.

Scottsdale's (10-3) Carlos Barela led the Artichokes with 20 points including nine in the overtime period. Freshman Donald Carter netted 16 points, nine coming in the front half while Nick Sessions netted 14 and Chris Orozco bucketed 10.
