No. 2 South Plains outlast Frank Phillips 91-72 Saturday in Borger

BORGER — Gaige Prim scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Trey Wade chipped in 27 points and hauled in 11 boards as the second-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team outlasted Frank Phillips College 91-72 Saturday.

South Plains improves to 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in the WJCAC and will return to the hardwood on Dec. 27 at 4 p.m. MST against Central Arizona College at the 2018 Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout on the campus of Mesa Community College.

Prim knocked down 12 of 17 attempts from the floor and was 5-for-9 from the free throw line in 26 minutes of action. Wade finished 12 of 17 from the floor and also dished out four assists and blocked two shots.

Sophomore Jonah Antonio was 4 of 10 from 3 for South Plains as he tallied 16 points on 6 of 15 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds and a season-high nine assists. Deon Barett netted nine points on 3 of 7 shooting as the Texans shot 55.9 percent from the field despite shooting just 29.2 percent from behind the arc.

South Plains had a season-high 18 turnovers but controlled the glass outrebounding the Plainsmen (9-4, 0-2) 42-26. South Plains forced 10 turnovers in the contest and scored 57 points inside the paint and netted 16 points on second-chance opportunities.

Frank Phillips shot just 37.9 percent from the floor and were 3 of 19 from the 3-point line. Marcus Brown and Romario Spence each scored 17 points for the Plainsmen while Marquise Kindel bucketed 16 and Paul Eromoseie netted six.
