Texans fall to No. 8 Odessa 95-80 Monday night in Odessa

ODESSA —  The South Plains College men's basketball team fell to the eighth-ranked Odessa College Wranglers 95-80 on Monday night, moving to 14-6 on the year and 6-2 in the WJCAC.

South Plains led 34-31 at the midway point, but a 64-point second half pushed the Wranglers to 19-2 on the season and 8-0 in conference play. Keandre Cook led Odessa with 21 points on 7 of 9 shooting from the field and was 7-for-7 from the free throw line. JJ Simpson poured in 19 points off the bench, knocking down 6 of 7 attempts from the floor over 24 minutes.

LJ Figueroa netted 15 points to go along with five boards and six assists, while Jonathan Maxwell finished with 13 points and seven rebounds and Jermaine Haley tallied 11 points and six assists.

South Plains' Deshawn Corprew scored in double digits for the second time in his last three outings, chipping in a team high 22 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field over 32 minutes. Sophomore Raymond Doby recorded his second double-double of the year, bucketing 16 points and grabbed 11 boards. Ben Perez finished with 10 points and three assists, while Christopher Orlina and Jordan Brangers each had nine.

In a contest which saw nine lead changes, South Plains shot 46.7 percent from the floor and was 6 of 14 from the 3-point line. Odessa shot 48.5 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3, but capitalized at the charity stripe, knocking down 22 of 25 free throws. The Wranglers netted 46 points inside the paint and received 28 points off the bench.

South Plains will look to return to the win column on Thursday night when they host Midland College on 'Think Pink' night at the Texan Dome. The game will be streaming live at spctexans.com with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
