Texans fall to No. 3 Indian Hills 82-68 Saturday in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. — Despite three players scoring in double digits, the South Plains College men's basketball team fell to No. 3 Indian Hills 82-68 on Saturday in the finals of the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout.

South Plains' Deshawn Corprew led all scorers with a season-high 27 points, knocking down 10 of 22 shots from the floor over 27 minutes. Sophomore Raymond Doby added 12 points for the Texans (9-4) and grabbed six boards, while freshman Keith McGee chipped in 10 points in 24 minutes.

Indian Hill's Antonio Williams scored a team-high 19 points and corraled 11 rebounds while Ivan Aurrecoechea and Shane Gatling combined for 26 points and nine rebounds. Jamel Allen added 17 points off the bench for the Warriors (16-0) and Tomas Woldetensae finished with seven points and two boards.

South Plains held the Warriors to a 39 percent shooting mark from the floor but couldn't capitalize as they shot just 40 percent from the field and 3 of 21 from the 3-point line. Aurrecoechea and Williams combined for 17 points in the front half as the Warriors would take a 38-29 advantage in the locker room at the midway point.

Corprew would score 25 of his final tally in the second half, but the Texans failed to find a rhythm in the final 20 minutes as they were 0-for-8 from the the perimeter in the back half. Indian Hills won the battle on the glass, outscoring the Texans 34-24 in the paint and recorded 17 points of 12 Texan' turnovers.

South Plains will conclude their four-game road trip in Arizona on Sunday when they take on Chandler-Gilbert at 2 p.m. MST in Chandler.
