No. 3 South Plains host Frank Phillips 3:45 p.m. Saturday in WJCAC showdown at the Texan Dome

LEVELLAND — The third-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team returns to the Texan Dome on Saturday for a 3:45 p.m. tipoff against WJCAC conference foe Frank Phillips College.

South Plains has won five of its last six including a 70-60 win over Midland on Wednesday in its conference opener at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. Frank Phillips has dropped its last three outings and come into Saturday with a 5-6 record and are 0-1 in conference play. 

A look back:

The Texans swept the Plainsmen a year ago, picking up a 90-66 victory on Dec. 3 at the Texan Dome followed by a 90-61 conference road win in Borger on Feb. 6. A win on Saturday would sit South Plains at 2-0 in conference play in their final outing before the Christmas break.

Last time out:

South Plains had three players score in double digits against Midland and received quality minutes off the bench to facilitate the win. Isaiah Maurice led all scorers as the 6-foot-10 transfer from Kansas State recorded 25 points on 10 of 13 shooting to go along with six boards and a pair of blocked shots. Texas Tech commit Deshawn Corprew chipped in 17 points on 7 of 8 shooting and also handed out five assists in 21 minutes. Sophomore Jordan Brangers totaled 13 points and seven boards over 40 minutes and South Carolina transfer Raymond Doby added eight points and eight boards off the bench for South Plains.
