LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's basketball team will host a top 25 matchup when they tipoff against No.22 Arizona Western in their home opener on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Texan Dome as part of the 2017 Texan Classic.

The third-ranked Texans enter the contest with a 1-1 record after splitting their first two games in Lewisville a week ago. The Texans downed Lamar Port Arthur 80-70 in the season opener before falling to Angelina College 82-69 on Nov. 5.

The Matadors come in with a 1-0 record after defeating Imperial Valley 98-68 in their season opener on Nov. 7. Arizona Western won the Region I title a year ago with a 26-7 record and return six players from last year's squad.

Players to watch:

Sophomore Jordan Brangers anchors the Texan' offense averaging 22 points per game and is shooting 62 percent from the 3-point line. Brangers tallied 25 points against Lamar Port Arthur and 19 against Angelina, posting a 66 percent shooting mark in his first two outings.

Texas Tech commit Deshawn Corprew and 6'11 big man Isaiah Maurice are each averaging 13.5 points per game on the year. Corprew totaled 27 points in the first two games and is shooting 55.6 percent from the field. Maurice recorded 11 blocked shots to go along with his 16 points against Angelina and will look to continue to be a factor in the interior for the Texans.

The Matadors are led by sophomore Darly Adams who scored 20 points and was 5 of 8 from 3 in his sole appearance this season. Brandon McGhee and Dajuan Beard scored 15 and 13 points against Imperial Valley.
