Four Texans earn All-Conference honors

Four Texans earn All-Conference honors

The 2015-2016 Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference teams were released on Sunday, with four members of the South Plains College Texans earning All-Conference honors.

Freshman guard Jerron Love was named Freshman of the year, as the Yonkers, New York native averaged 7.1 points-per-game, and shot over 47 percent from behind the arc during conference play. Love also hauled in 62 rebounds on the season and dished out 57 assists. Love scored in double figures in 11 games in 2016, eight of which came during conference play. Love had a career high in points scored on February 25 against Western Texas College, racking up 26 points and was 6-of-9 from the 3-point line.

Charlotte, North Carolina native Che Bob was named the newcomer of the year in the WJCAC, as the sophomore averaged 15.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per-game in 2016. Bob shot over 50 percent from the field in conference play while also hauling in 221 rebounds on the year. Bob finished the season with 435 total points for the Texans, scoring in double figures in 20 different games, including a 37-point performance on February 11 against New Mexico Military Institute, where he went 14-of-18 from the floor in 37 minutes of action.

Sophomore Marlon Jones, a 6-foot-9 forward from Chicago earned All-Conference honors after averaging 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per-game for South Plains. Jones shot over 57 percent from from the floor in conference play and 81 percent from the free-throw line, while also hauling in 132 rebounds on the year. Jones had 14 games where he scored in double figures, including a season high in the regional tournament against Hill College, racking up 26 points and was 10-of-11 from the floor.

Deontae North, a 6-foot-4 guard from Corona, California finished the season averaging 12.8 and 4.9 rebounds per-game, and also had 70 assists in 2016. North finished the season with 359 total points and shot over 40 percent from the 3-point line in conference play. North scored in double figures in 20 different for the Texans, including a 30point performance against Midland College on December 2 where he was 9-0f-18 from the field and 4-of-9 from long distance.
