Texans and Lady Texans Prepare for Final Conference Game

With just a single game remaining on the 2016 conference schedule, the South Plains College Texans can earn a share of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference crown with a win on Thursday against Western Texas College in Snyder.

The Texans currently hold a 21-7 record on the year and sit at 12-3 in conference play, tied with Odessa College, who is also 12-3 in the WJCAC and will travel to Frank Phillips Thursday night. Should the Texans take care of business against Western Texas and the Wranglers slip up and lose to Frank Phillips, who is 10-5 in conference and currently sits in third, South Plains could win the league outright and head to the Regional Tournament in Brownwood with a No. 1 seed.

Hoisting a 7-6 record in the WJCAC, the Lady Texans will also be playing for a regional berth when they travel to Snyder Thursday night. South Plains, Odessa and Howard College will be vowing for the third and fourth spots in conference, all of whom share the same record in conference play.

The Howard Lady Hawks will have to travel to Hobbs, New Mexico on Thursday for a matchup with the No. 8 nationally ranked New Mexico Junior College Lady Thunderbirds, who remain perfect in the conference with a 13-0 record. The Odessa College Lady Wranglers will be hosting 3-10 Frank Phillips on Thursday with a chance to clinch a regional berth with a win. Should the pieces fall in place as expected with South Plains and Odessa taking care of business on Thursday, along with NMJC defending their home court and perfect conference record by downing Howard, the Lady Texans and Lady Wranglers will be guaranteed a berth in the regional tournament.

Live video for both games on Thursday night will be available at www.spctexans.com and KLVT's Michael Wiiest will call the courtside action. The games will also be available locally on KLVT radio as well as online at www.klvtradio.com. The Lady Texans will tipoff at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
