Love's 19 Pushes SPC Past Howard

BIG SPRING— The South Plains College Texans improved to 4-2 in the WJCAC conference with a 74-71 road win against Howard on Thursday night in Big Spring.

Jerron Love led the Texans in scoring for the second straight game as the 5-foot-10 freshman guard finished with 19 points and three assists in 31 minutes of play for the Texans. Deontae North shot 50 percent from the three-point line and knocked down all six free-throws attempted en route to a 15-point performance for South Plains.

Che Bob was a presence on the inside once again for the Texans (13-6), as the 6-foot-5 sophomore racked up 14 points and six board in 25 minutes of action. Marlon Jones went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line and finished with eight points and three rebounds for South Plains, while Montell McRae and Diamante Langston each chipped in five.

South Plains shot over 46 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and 55 percent from long distance while taking a 36-31 lead into the Locker room at halftime. The Texan' defense forced 11 turnovers in the contest which resulted in 12 points on the offensive end.

The Hakws' (11-8, 1-4) Reggie Olive connected on a three near the top of they key with under 10 second remaining in regulation to trim the Texans' lead to three, but it would not be enough as the Texans picked up a crucial road win heading into Monday night's stint with Clarendon at the Texan Dome.
