Texans Bounce Back Against Cougars

The South Plains College Texans improved to 2-2 on the season Saturday downing Coast Bend College 87-75 at the Texan Dome.

Sophomore guard Che Bob finished the contest with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Marlon Jones racked up 19 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Roberto Gallinat notched up 15 points for the Texans, while Justice Green had 10.

SPC shot nearly 50% from the field, including going 25-29 from the free throw line. The Texans held a 10-point lead at the half thanks to 17 points from Bob over the first 20 minutes.

Coastal Bend's Giovanni Collins scored 18 points for the Cougars, while Keiston MacKay finished with 17 points and five rebounds.

The Texans were able to push their lead to 15 with 8:29 left in the second half before the Cougars eventually trimmed the lead to nine with just under five minutes to play. SPC controlled the pace over the final course of the game before finishing off the Cougars for a much needed win heading into next week.

"We just needed to win a game, we haven't tasted that in a while," head coach Steven Green said. "This isn't a game we need to be proud of, but we do need to win and get that taste out of our mouth. We really need to work on finishing a defensive play, and we really need to toughen up and finish off a defensive possession. We need to get back on the court in the brief time that we have and really focus on that."
