Three players hit double digits; Andre Spight led the team with 20 points and nine rebounds. Behind him with 18 points and seven rebounds was Emmanuel Omogbo along with Brandon Neel's 12 points and five rebounds.
Texans took the lead early in the first half, however the play of the game began to slow and Western Texas caught up putting them ahead by eight in the first half.
Winning this game put South Plains in a good place heading into second round of play. South Plains (18-4, 8-1) remains tied for first with Howard College (17-5, 8-1), which gave them their only loss.
They will be battling for the first place title in the league against Howard College Thursday, Feb. 5 in the Texan Dome at 7:45 p.m. Game will be sponsored by Ameriprise Financial.
