The Chaps stayed close to the Texans in scoring for most of the first half but in less than a minute Pat Birt sank three, three-pointers back to back to expand the difference between South Plains and Midland heading to half.
South Plains held the lead from then on. Midland tried to close the gap between them and the Texans but South Plains held their lead adding a total of 52 points in the second period.
Pat Birt led the Texans with 25 points over Midland College. Teammate Emmanuel Omogbowas close behind adding his own 24 points and Brandon Neel put down 21 points for the Texans.
Adding this win put the Texans at a 16-4, 6-1 record pushing them to the top of the WJCAC men's basketball standings in addition to pushing Howard College (15-5, 6-1) down after their loss, Jan. 22 to New Mexico Junior College (15-6, 4-3).
The Texans will be taking on Odessa College Monday night, Jan. 26 at 7:45 p.m. in the Texan Dome. Courtesy of City Bank, Prosperity Bank, Aim Bank, Sundown State Bank, and Hockley County School Employees Credit Union there will be FREE hot dogs given to those in attendance to the game.
