In order to make their third trip to Hutchinson in the last four years, South Plains had to take on Western Junior College Athletic Conference rivals New Mexico Junior College and Howard for a third time to continue their season.
South Plains and Howard battled each other again for the title of "champions" after being co-champions in the WJCAC. The intense game was kick started with Jerron Martin's three point shot. From that point the Texans began their score increase over the Howard Hawks to have a lead of 43-26 at half time.
Brandon Neel led the Texans with 19 points and five rebounds, while David Kadiri made 12 points and had seven rebounds. Howard never took the lead over South Plains, with the score coming to a tie only once, and that was in the first minute of the game.
The Texans will return to the NJCAA National Tournament that is held at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. The games will streamed live on www.njcaa.org.
