Five South Plains College basketball players were named to Western Junior College Athletic Conference or Region 5 teams for the 2008-2009 season.
Leading the way for the Texans was David Tairu, who was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the WJCAC and was also named to the Region 5 team. Tairu was the only Texan selected to both teams.
In 16 conference games, Tairu averaged 15.9 points-per-game, while playing an average of 30-minutes per contest. Tairu made 45-percent of his shots from the field and 77-percent of his free throws.
Sophomore guards Landon Tatum and Hugh Mingo were named to the WJCAC All-Conference team. Tatum started every game for the Texans and averaged 8.7 points, 5.8 assists and just under 32-minutes per game. Mingo scored 11.2 points-per-game and shot 49-percent from the field.
Freshman Myles Walker and Tramar Sutherland received WJCAC Honorable Mention honors for their efforts.
