JOE TUBB - INDUCTED 2018 - HALL OF FAME
Joe Tubb’s connection to the NJCAA began in 1966 when he arrived at South Plains College on a golf scholarship. After transferring to and graduating from West Texas State University in 1971, he launched his coaching career as the head golf coach at Palo Duro High School.
Following two years in that role, Tubb expanded his coaching resume, spending the next decade successfully leading high school football and basketball programs. In 1983, he returned home to South Plains College as Athletic Director, where he worked alongside legendary golf coach Larry Roberts and reconnected deeply with NJCAA golf.
Tubb soon became an influential figure in the sport at the national level. As NJCAA Region V Men’s Director, he played a key role in shaping the trajectory of two-year collegiate golf. In 1991, he was appointed to the Division I Men’s Golf Committee, later serving as committee chair—a position he held until his retirement as NJCAA President in 2015. Throughout his career, Tubb was a steadfast advocate for NJCAA golf and its coaches, helping elevate the sport’s profile across the country.
His leadership extended to championship hosting as well, directing the Division I Golf National Championship in 2015 and again in 2018, following his retirement.
In recognition of his decades of dedication and service, Joe Tubb was inducted into the NJCAA Golf Coaches Hall of Fame during the 2018 National Championship Tournament Banquet. The honor was presented by longtime friend and fellow Hall of Famer Delnor Poss of Midland College—an appropriate tribute to one of NJCAA golf’s most respected champions.
