CLINT RAMSEY – INDUCTED 2013 - TRACK & FIELD
A proud West Texan, Clint Ramsey came to South Plains College in 1969 after a successful run coaching high school track and field and football. “I immediately fell in love with South Plains College and coaching junior college track,” Ramsey recalled—and his impact on the program quickly reflected that passion.
During his tenure, Ramsey coached dozens of NJCAA All-Americans along with multiple national champions and record holders. His teams twice finished as national runners-up at the NJCAA Championships, and his outstanding leadership earned him NJCAA Track and Field Coach of the Year honors in 1979 and 1981.
Beyond coaching, Ramsey devoted himself to promoting NJCAA track and field on a national scale. He served three terms as president of the NJCAA Coaches Association and contributed significantly to the sport’s visibility and development as editor of the NJCAA newsletter, Spike and Bar.
Ramsey’s service extended across the athletic department as well. He served as Athletic Director at South Plains College from 1980 to 1982 and received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1979, reflecting his commitment not only to athletic excellence but also to the academic and personal growth of his students.
Clint Ramsey’s legacy is one of dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of junior college athletics.
