Yore leads Texans with second place finish in steer wrestling at Sul Ross State University Rodeo

ALPINE — Brey Yore placed second in steer wrestling and led the Texans to a fifth place team finish Saturday at the Sul Ross State University Rodeo at the SALE Arena.

Yore posted a 4.9 in the long round and a 4.3 in the finals to finish with a 9.2 average and 110 points. Jace Joos and Cayden Schulz placed sixth and seventh in steer wrestling, respectively, as Joos took sixth with a 10.6 average and 50 individual points, while Schulz was seventh with an 11.3 average and 20 individual points.   

Kreece Dearing turned in a fifth place finish in tiedown roping, clocking a 9.5 in the long round and a 12.3 in the finals, adding 43.33 points for the Texans. John Hisel added 105 points in team roping, running a 5.9 in the long round and a 5.9 in the finals to take third on the weekend.

Trey Adams notched 60 individual points in team roping, posting a 6.4 in the long round and a 9.7 in the finals, good enough for fourth overall. South Plains' Gus Kelley and Birch Eiguren took fifth in team roping, going 5.4 in the long round but no timed in the finals, totaling 60 individual points. Kyler Beshirs also made the finals in team roping, posting a 6.1 in the long round but no timed in the finals, taking ninth overall.

Kallie Montalvo led the Lady Texans with a fifth place finish in goat tying, going 6.6 in the long round and 9.2 in the finals, totaling 55 points. South Plains will be back in the arena Oct. 10-12 at the Clarendon College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Rodeo Oct. 24-26.
