
PORTALES — Nathan Clawson led the South Plains College men's rodeo team with 140 points over the weekend in their first rodeo of the fall semester at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo at Lewis Cooper Arena.
Clawson won the tiedown roping event title, posting an 8.5 in the long round and a 9.6 in the finals to finish with an 18.1 average. Brey Yore made the finals in steer wrestling, finishing ninth on the weekend.
South Plains' Clayton Beshirs took third in team roping, running a 7.5 in the long round and a 5.8 in the finals, totaling 100 individual points. Wyatt Mask placed ninth in team roping, clocking a 6.8 in the long round but no timed in the finals.
Channing Wescott led the Lady Texans with a second place finish in breakaway roping, turning in a 2.8 in the long round and a 2.6 in the finals to pick up 95 individual points. South Plains will be back in the arena Sept. 26-28 when they travel to Alpine for the Sul Ross State University Rodeo.
