Yore, Hisel, Murphy claim region titles, advance to College National Finals Rodeo

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams closed out the season on Saturday at the Tarleton State Stampede, winning three region titles as Brey Yore, John Hisel, and Allie Murphy qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo.

Yore won the men's all-around title as the top cowboy in the Southwest Region and will compete in steer wrestling and calf roping at the CNFR in Casper, Wyoming, June 9-15. Yore totaled 26 points in steer wrestling in Stephenville, placing sixth on the weekend, and capped the year with a region-best 861 points.

John Hisel won the team roping heeler region title and placed first on Saturday. Hisel rode with Jett Stewart of Weatherford College, posting a 6.4 in the long round and a 5.3 in the finals to take home 140 points. Hisel finished the year with a region-leading 495 points.

Murphy closed out the season with a first place finish in barrel racing at TSU, clocking a 15.62 in the long round and a 15.57 in the finals, totaling 175 points on the weekend. Murphy dominated the Southwest Region in barrels, totaling a region-best 650 points, nearly 150 points more than the second place spot.

South Plains will once again be represented at the highest level of collegiate rodeo at the CNFR, which will air live on ESPN3. All performances of the CNFR—Tuesday through Saturday will air on ESPN3. ESPN3 is available by using the ESPN App. The top three competitors in each event, and the top two men's and women's teams from the NIRA's 11 regions qualify for the CNFR.
