Yore captures men's all-around title in Vernon

VERNON — Brey Yore totaled 195 points over the weekend en route to capturing the men's all-around title and leading the Texans to a fourth place team finish at the Vernon College Rodeo.

Yore totaled 135 points in tiedown roping, posting a 9.1 in the long round and a 9.0 in the finals to take second overall. Yore would then take fourth in steer wrestling, running a 4.4 in the long round and a 6.9 in the finals, totaling 70 points. Dawson Loewen added 50 points for South Plains in steer wrestling, placing sixth on the weekend with a 12.4 average. Kreece Dearing also made the finals in steer wrestling, placing ninth in the event.

Nathan Clawson picked up 65 individual points in tiedown roping for South Plains, finishing fourth with a 19.1 average. Clawson posted a 9.4 in the long round, and a 9.7 in the finals Saturday night. South Plains' Colton Walters and Jayden Morris placed 10th in team roping, running a 6.6 in the long round but missed in the finals to finish with a 106.6 average.

South Plains' Kallie Montalvo finished ninth in goat tying, running a 7.1 in the long round and a 7.6 in the finals, capping the event with a 14.7 average. Allie Murphy took seventh in barrel racing, running a 17.26 in the long round and a 22.09 in the finals totaling 40 individual points.

Maddie Bews notched a fourth place finish in breakaway roping, clocking a 2.4 in the long round and a 4.5 in the finals to finish with a 6.9 average, and 72 individual points. Janae Todacheenie totaled 32 points for the Lady Texans with a sixth place finish in the breakaway, turning in a 2.4 in the long round and a 12.1 in the finals to finish with a 14.5 average.

The Texans finished fourth in the final team standings with 245 points, while the Lady Texans were eighth in the team standings with 32 points. South Plains will be back in the arena Oct. 12-14 in Canadian, Texas for the Frank Phillips College Rodeo, followed by the Texas Tech University Rodeo Oct. 26-28 in Lubbock.
