LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the season Friday morning at the Texas Tech Open at the LCU cross country course.

Divan Du Plooy led the Texans to an 11th-place team finish, posting a 25:52.20 In the men's 8k to take 12^th overall. Matthew Gordon was the second runner across the line for South Plains in 28:42.80, good enough for 81^st, while Gavin Morrison placed 102^nd in 29:23.90.

On the women's side, sophomore Lilliana Guerrero placed 54^th overall with a time of 25:45.30 in the 6k.

South Plains will be back on the course next Friday when they travel to Hobbs for the New Mexico Junior College Invitational at 9 a.m. MST.
