Lady Texans capture women's team title at Tarleton State Stampede, qualify for College National Finals Rodeo

STEPHENVILLE — The South Plains College women's rodeo team will represent SPC at the highest level of collegiate rodeo after winning the women's team title at the Tarleton State Stampede Saturday to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo.

The Lady Texans closed out the year with 1,470 points to finish second in the final team standings in the Southwest Region, trailing only Tarleton State, who tallied 2,074 points on the year. The top two teams from each region qualify for the CNFR, which is slated for June 11-17 in Casper, Wyoming.

South Plains totaled 270 points in Stephenville, led by Amarillo native Emery Mask who won the women's all-around title with 235 points. Mask, who entered the weekend with 560 points, capped the year with 795 points to also win the women's all-around title as the top point-getter in the Southwest Region.

The Texans will also be represented in Wyoming as Penrose, Colorado native Logan Kenline won the steer wrestling region title for South Plains, posting 85 points over the weekend to cap the year with a region-best 685 points.

Mask posted the average in barrel racing, running a 14.89 in the long round followed by a 14.97 in the finals, finishing with a 29.86 average, totaling 170 points. Mask would then add 65 points in breakaway roping, turning in a 2.2 in the long round and a 3.0 in the finals, good enough for fifth overall.

South Plains' Maddie Bews also made the finals in the breakaway, posting a 2.3 in the long round but no timed in the finals. Madison Neal would add 35 points for South Plains in goat tying, turning in a 6.1 in the long round but no timed in the finals to place ninth overall.

Kenline wrestled his way to a third place finish in steer wrestling, posting a 5.1 in the long round and a 4.2 in the finals, good enough for 85 points on the weekend. South Plains' Clay Hurt also made the finals in steer wrestling running a 4.1 in the long round but no timed in the finals to take eighth. Brey Yore notched a seventh place finish in tiedown roping for SPC, posting a 9.2 in the long round and an 11.5 in the finals, capping the event with a 20.7 average.
