TRYOUT INFORMATION
CHEERLEADING AT SPC:
Cheerleading at South Plains College is an amazing experience that you will not forget. We expect dedication and a willingness to exceed expectations at tryouts, practices, and games. SPC Cheerleaders and Mascot promote and uphold school spirit. They encourage good sporting behavior among students. They promote unification of the crowd's involvement during athletic events by leading in a positive manner. They strive to uphold the highest personal, as well as cheerleading standards.
CHEERLEADING ADVICE:
South Plains College looks for something special when selecting members of our squad. We look for that all-around great cheerleader who can not only excel from a skill standpoint but can also go out into the community and be a reputable ambassador for SPC. We are looking for individuals that have a team player attitude, will work hard, be a role model, and be the best that they can be.
SCHOLARSHIP:
South Plains College provides everyone with a $500.00 scholarship and books each semester.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student each semester (12 hours or more)
- Must maintain a 2.5 GPA
- Must attend all mandatory practices, games, events and activities deemed necessary by the Cheerleading Director
You cannot be on scholastic or disciplinary probation or have been suspended from South Plains College or any other college institution. Failure to meet requirements can lead to termination from the squad immediately.
TRYOUT DATE & TIME:
Tryouts for South Plains College will be on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10:00AM in the Physical Education Complex Gym.
Tryouts will be closed. At the tryouts, participants will be required to do three jumps; two of your choice and a toe touch, two chants and a dance. Tutorial videos of the tryout material is linked at the bottom of this information page or can be found on the cheerleading page for participants prior to tryouts. If you tumble, you may do so as you spirit out to do the cheer. Tumbling is not a requirement but could be a determining factor in the judging if we have a tie.
DRESS:
Please wear a white shirt, navy or black gym shorts, and tennis shoes for tryouts. You will NOT be judged on your clothing, so please keep it simple. Please have your hair pulled back and do not wear any jewelry.
Body piercings are unacceptable for anyone trying out for cheerleader at South Plains College. Belly button rings and nose STUDS are acceptable as long as they are in good taste (Cheerleading Directors discretion). Absolutely no eyebrow or lip piercings are allowed…if you make the squad, then at any time get a body piercing mentioned previously, it can result in termination from the squad immediately. (This is for your safety!)
JUDGING:
After tryouts have been judged, the final squad posting will be emailed out. SPC has the best judging staff available for tryouts. We stand firm in our decision and consider it final. There will be no discussion of scores after tryouts.
