Mask captures women's all-around title, Lady Texans jump into second in region standings with second place finish in Big Spring

BIG SPRING — Emery Mask won the women's all-around title as the South Plains College women's rodeo team moved into second place in the Southwest region standings with a second place team finish Saturday at the Howard College Rodeo.

The Lady Texans tallied 230 points over the weekend, giving SPC 1,202 points on the season, a 92 point lead over Cisco, who is third in the region with 1,110 points. Tarleton State is first in the region in the women's team standings with 1,849 points. The top two teams in the region qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in June in Casper, Wyoming.

Mask totaled 135 points in barrel racing, turning in a 17.19 in the long round followed by a 16.96 in the finals to finish second overall with a 34.15 average. Mask added an additional 55 points in breakaway roping with a fifth-place finish. Mask clocked a 2.9 in the long round and a 2.8 in the finals, posting a final average of 5.7.

Madison Neal added 30 points in goat tying for South Plains, placing sixth overall. Neal ran a 9.4 in the long round and a 9.2 in the finals, capping the event with an 18.6 average. Morgan Northcutt tallied 10 individual points in goat tying, running a 9.2 in the long round and a 10.8 in the finals, good enough seventh overall. Sammy Taylor totaled 10 points for SPC in goat tying with a 10th-place finish, posting a 9.2 in the long round but no timed in the finals.  

The Texans were led by Brey Yore who totaled 90 points in steer wrestling. Yore clocked a 5.8 in the long round and a 6.6 in the finals to finish with a 12.4 average, good enough for fourth place overall. Nathan Clawson totaled 50 induvial points in tiedown roping, posting a 9.7 in the long round and a 14.7 in the finals, good enough for sixth place. South Plains' Titan Quigg qualified for the finals in tiedown roping, running an 11.0 in the long round but no timed in the finals to finish 10th overall.

South Plains will close out the season next weekend when they travel to Stephenville for the Tarleton State University Rodeo April 20-22.
