Texans take fourth, Lady Texans fifth Saturday at Odessa College Rodeo

ODESSA — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams qualified nine athletes for Saturday night's finals of the Odessa College Rodeo, with SPC notching a pair of top-five team finishes at the Ector County Coliseum.

Titan Quigg totaled 80 points for the Texans in tiedown roping, placing sixth after winning the long round in 7.7, and posted an 18.4 in the finals to finish with a 26.1 average. The Texans placed four in the steer wrestling finals, led by Jace Joos who took second after winning the long round in 4.4 and went 6.7 in the finals to notch 140 individual points.

Logan Kenline turned in a third place finish in steer wrestling for South Plains, clocking a 6.0 in the long round and a 6.7 in the finals, totaling 95 points. Clay Tom Hurt placed sixth in steer wrestling, running a 9.1 in the long round and a 17.3 in the finals, good enough for 95 points. Dawson Loewen placed 10th overall in steer wrestling for SPC, turning in a 7.7 in the long round but missed in the finals, picking up 10 individual points.

Birch Eiguren added 60 points for South Plains in team roping, riding with Tarleton's Braden Roe. The duo won the long round in 5.2 but missed in the finals to take eighth overall. South Plains' Morgan Northcutt placed second in breakaway roping for the Lady Texans, posting a 2.6 in the long round and a 12.4 in the finals, totaling 120 individual points. Emery Mask placed fourth in breakaway roping, winning the long round in 2.4, but missed in the finals to finish with 80 points. Samantha Taylor placed 10th on the weekend in goat tying, running a 7.1 in the long round but no timed in the finals to add 2.5 points for SPC.

The Texans placed fourth on the weekend with 330 points, while the Lady Texans took fifth with 82.5 points. South Plains will be back in the arena March 23-25 when they travel to Sweetwater for the Ranger College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Snyder for the Western Texas College Rodeo March 30 – April 1.
