SPC rodeo teams set for Odessa College Rodeo Feb. 23-25

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will be back in the arena Feb. 23-25 at the Odessa College Rodeo, competing in their first of five rodeos in the spring semester.

With five rodeos complete, the Texans currently sit fourth in the region with 1,075 points, while the Lady Texans are currently in fourth in the women's team standings with 500 points. Brey Yore leads the region in steer wrestling with 295 points and is second in the region standings in tiedown roping with 375 points. Logan Kenline is second in the region in steer wrestling with 290 points, while Madison Bean is eighth in the region standings in breakaway roping.

In their last outing at the Texas Tech University Rodeo on October 30, Yore captured the men's all-around title and Bean snagged the women's all-around crown as SPC placed second in both the men's and women's final team standings.

Yore totaled 140 points in steer wrestling, winning the event title with a 4.9 in the long round and a 5.2 in the finals, posting a 10.1 average. Logan Kenline added 85 points to the Texan's total, placing fourth in steer wrestling after running a 7.0 in the long round and a 4.9 in the finals to finish with an 11.9 average. South Plains' Jace Joos placed eighth in steer wrestling, clocking a 6.3 in the long round and an 18.6 in the finals to cap the event with a 24.9 average. Yore added 160 points to his total with a second-place finish in tiedown roping, clocking a 9.0 in the long round and a 10.0 in the finals, posting a 19.0 average.

Bean led the Lady Texans with a second-place finish in barrel racing, notching 130 points in Lubbock. Bean posted an 18.38 in the long round and a 17.91 in the finals Saturday night to cap the event with a 36.29 average. Bean would then tack on 130 points in breakaway roping, placing third overall. Bean turned in a 3.0 in the long round and a 4.4 in the finals to finish with a 7.4 average.

Following the weekend, South Plains will be back on the road March 23-25 in Sweetwater for the Ranger College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Snyder for the Western Texas College Rodeo March 30 – April 1.
