LEVELLAND — The South Plains College women's basketball team is slated to travel to Athens, Texans following the Thanksgiving break for a two-game slate as part of the Trinity Valley Thanksgiving Classic, which will air in its entirety on ESPN+.

The Lady Texans will take on Paris Junior College at noon on Friday, Nov. 25, followed by a noon matchup against Panola College on Saturday. The tournament will feature eight games showcasing eight total teams, as each game will air live on ESPN+.

South Plains will look to get back to the .500 mark, coming into the weekend with a record of 3-5, winning their most recent contest against the University of the Southwest JV 84-49 on Monday in Hobbs.

That said, the Lady Texans have played arguably the toughest non-conference schedule in the country to date, squaring off with No. 1 Trinity Valley in two games this season, and hosted No. 3 Blinn College on Nov. 7 in Levelland. South Plains is averaging just over 56 points and 37.6 rebounds per game, shooting a 37.7 clip from the field on the year.

SPC is led by sophomore standout Celia Sumbame, who leads the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game. Sumbane is shooting 46.4 percent from the field this season, scoring in double figures in six games, most notably, a 23-point outing against Blinn College.

Following the weekend, South Plains will be back home on Dec. 1 when they play host to Lamar Community College at 5 p.m. at the Texan Dome.
