LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's basketball program will send four players from the 2022-23 squad to Division I universities next season, which was made official on Wednesday, the first day athletes could sign their national letter of intent.

Sophomore big man Kalifa Sakho will play for Utah State University next season, as he looks to help the Texan get back to the National Tournament for a second straight season. Sakho is a catalyst for South Plains in the paint, scoring 13 points and snagging four rebounds in the Texans' season opener against Victoria College.

Jaden Harris will move on to East Tennessee State University next season and has been one of the top scorers for the Texans through the first three games. Harris scored a season-high 18 points in the Texan's 83-48 win over Murray State, knocking down 7 of 14 shots from the field for South Plains.

Elijah Tate will play for the Bobcats of Texas State University next season and will play a key role for the Texans on both ends of the floor this season. Tate netted a season-high 15 points and six rebounds in the season opener, dropping in 5 of 12 shots from the floor over 32 minutes for South Plains.

Christian Coleman is set to play for the University of Alabama at Birmingham next season, and will unquestionably be regarded as one of the top players in the NJCAA this season. Coleman has scored in double figures in all three games to begin the year, including a 20-point outing against Murray State, knocking down 9 of 14 shots from the floor and also snagged nine rebounds for South Plains.

The Texans will be back on the floor this weekend when they travel to Plano for the Collin County Classic. SPC will square off with Jacksonville College at noon on Friday, followed by a 10 a.m. contest against Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Saturday. Both games will stream live at spctexans.com.
