Tanui leads Texans to fourth place finish at Region V Cross Country Championships Saturday

HOBBS — Aron Tanui placed seventh overall in the men's 8k Saturday, leading the Texans to a fourth place team finish at the Region V Championships at Harry McAdams Park

Tanui was the first runner across the line for South Plains, posting a 24:16.8, while Maximus Palacios turned in a 25:50.6, good enough for 12th overall. Kimar Farquharson was 19th in 26:36.5 as the Texans finished with a 2:12.35 total time, clocking a 26:31 team average. El Paso CC won the men's title, while New Mexico JC was second, and Hill College was third.

In the women's 5k, Rushana Dwyer led South Plains with a 12th place finish, posting a time of 20:16.9. Lilliana Guerrero was 14th with her time of 20:31.6, while Esmeralda Espinoza placed 15h with a time of 20:32.3. Sophomore Jeniel Jones placed 21st for South Plains, clocking a 21:33.7.
