HOBBS — The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams competed in their final race before the region championship meet Friday, running at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational at Harry McAdams Park.

Aron Tanui led the Texans with a top five finish in the men's 8k, posting a time of 24:10.8 to take fifth overall. Maximus Palacios was the second runner across the line for the Texans, clocking a 26:28.2, good enough for 19^th place. Kimar Farquharson turned in a time of 27:43.9 for SPC, placing 32^nd overall.

Freshman Rushana Dwyer led the Lady Texans in the women's 5k with a time of 20:50.3, placing 21^st for SPC. Lilliana Guerrero was 22^nd in a time of 20:55.7, while Esmeralda Espinoza placed 26^th with a final time of 21:20.5.

South Plains will be off next week in preparation for the Region V Championships, which are slated for Oct. 29 in Hobbs at Harry McAdams Park.
