Tanui places fifth Friday at New Mexico Junior College Invitational

HOBBS — The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams competed in their final race before the region championship meet Friday, running at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational at Harry McAdams Park.

Aron Tanui led the Texans with a top five finish in the men's 8k, posting a time of 24:10.8 to take fifth overall. Maximus Palacios was the second runner across the line for the Texans, clocking a 26:28.2, good enough for 19th place. Kimar Farquharson turned in a time of 27:43.9 for SPC, placing 32nd overall.

Freshman Rushana Dwyer led the Lady Texans in the women's 5k with a time of 20:50.3, placing 21st for SPC. Lilliana Guerrero was 22nd in a time of 20:55.7, while Esmeralda Espinoza placed 26th with a final time of 21:20.5.

South Plains will be off next week in preparation for the Region V Championships, which are slated for Oct. 29 in Hobbs at Harry McAdams Park.
