SPC rodeo teams qualify six for finals of Sul Ross State University Rodeo

ALPINE — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams qualified six for the finals of the Sul Ross State University Rodeo over the weekend in their second of five rodeos this fall.

The Texans qualified three in the steer wrestling finals, including Jace Joos who placed seventh on the weekend, running a 4.7 in the long round and a 5.9 in the finals to finish with a 10.6 average. Clay Hurt notched a 10th place finish, clocking a 4.7 in the long round but no timed in the finals. Logan Kenline tallied 40 points for SPC, running a 4.2 in the long round but no timed in the finals, placing 12th overall.

Titan Quigg picked up 75 points for the Texans in tiedown roping, turning in a 9.0 on the long round and a 7.9 in the finals to finish with a 16.9 average, good enough for fourth place on the weekend. Brey Yore added five points in tiedown roping, placing 10th after running an 8.7 in the long round but missed in the finals Saturday night.

Emery Mask notched 20 points for the Lady Texans in barrel racing as the sophomore from Amarillo placed sixth overall. Mask clocked a 16.23 in the long round and a 16.34 in the finals, finishing with a 32.57 average.

The Texans finished seventh in the final team standings with 120 points, with the Lady Texans placing 10th in the women's team standings with 20 points. SPC will be back in the arena Oct. 13-15 in Clarendon at the Clarendon College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Vernon for the Vernon College Rodeo Oct. 20-22.
